Respecting nature

It is very important to us that our activities are conducted with respect for nature and in a sustainable manner. Minimising excessive consumption and environmental degradation is a given.

For example, the frames of the ferry accommodation facility and sauna were built using wood from a spruce fence that fell during the Asta storm in 2010. The finishing touches have been made as much as possible using recycled materials and surplus items. New acquisitions have been aimed to be made as ecologically as possible. Sustainable development products and recycled materials are also preferred for use products.

Sustainable development

The company’s five principles of sustainable development are:

  1. We use raw materials from local nearby and small producers in our food offerings as much as possible with the theme ‘Wild food and local products, always close and sustainable.’
  2. We minimise waste and recycle everything that can be recycled. We build a lot of new things from items that no longer serve their original purpose, and we also scour flea markets if we need to acquire something. Generally, you can find the necessary items there. New acquisitions are made with consideration.
  3. We consider environmental aspects in all our activities and pay special attention to preserving biodiversity. We build birdhouses, feed the birds in winter, and keep the yard bee-friendly. It is also important to ensure the future of the critically endangered Saimaa ringed seal.
  4. Therefore, all the traps we use are seal-safe. We do not use nets at all.
We strive to ensure the preservation of Saimaa’s unique lake nature for future generations in our operations.
  5. We only collaborate with environmentally responsible companies or those that are purposefully striving towards it. Collaboration with other responsible entrepreneurs in the area is an important part of our operations. This way, we can create services that benefit many local businesses without burdening nature.
