Astuvansalmi

Astuvansalmi year-round

Just a short distance from Uhkua, on the shores of Lake Yövesi, lies the largest rock painting complex in the Nordic countries – the Astuvansalmi rock paintings. The images captured on the rock are over 5000 years old. As you approach the site from the water, an impressive human face profile emerges from the rock wall – Astuvan Ukko, who welcomes visitors even today.

We take our customers on guided tours to this ancient art exhibition year-round. When the lake is unfrozen, we travel by boat or canoe, in winter we use snowshoes to reach our destination, and in autumn, the route takes us along a path painted by the fall colours.

Snowshoeing trip to Astuvansalmi rock paintings
